"Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit them, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird"
Set during the great depression period of the 1930s, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a classic tale narrated by a six-year-old Scout Finch who lives with her father Atticus and brother Jem along with their cook Calpurnia in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. The story dates back to the time when there was a line between White and Black. The first part of the book revolves around the three children Scout, Jem, and their friend Dill try to lure their suspicious neighbor Boo Radley out of his house. Curious about him they ask endless questions to the people in their town who come up with various stories. The children try every trick and tactic but ultimately fails. The second part begins when Atticus a lawyer takes up the case of a black man Tom Robison, who is accused of raping white women. This brings up a situation where the whole finch family is criticized, including Scout and Jem. When Scout is disturbed by this, her father, who believes in righteousness comforts her with his strong words. When the trial of Tom, begins the conditions worsen. The fight for justice takes Atticus a long way where his children's life is at risk. Will this be the end of the fight? What will be the outcome of the trial? Will Scout and Jem be able to uncover the truth of Boo Radley?
Talking about the story it highlights the issues like violence, prejudice, and crime but through the eyes of an innocent six-year-old which makes it a fascinating read. It is disturbing when a person is judge or disrespected for his colour, physical ability, and caste. The book brings out the message that Atticus gives to his children about Kindness. The calm and motivating nature of Atticus makes him the favourite fictional character. The mystery of Boo Radley hooked me to the book. It was funny when the three children tried their best to uncover the mystery of Boo Radley. The trial lays out many questions which even make the reader think.
Each character in the story has a role to play and connects with the main storyline, which is what I liked the most. The narration is quite simple and shows the perspective of a child during such critical times. The book is the best classic and is a must-read.
My Rating:- 5/5
