“We all are entitled to one true love in our lives. And at times we find it in the wrong person.”

Do you believe in falling out of love?

The Part I Left with You by Rahul Saini pans around three characters Ratna, a young, bright journalism and literature student, Ronit Sukhdev, a renowned author, and Nitasha (Ronit’s ex). The story begins when Ratna receives an assignment where she has to interview an author. Ratna being a crazy fan of Ronit picks him for the interview. Ronit Sukhdev, a professional writer of many bestsellers had to stop writing after his massive breakup. The pain of heartbreak has made him cynical and philosophical. While Nitasha an artist has taken the step to move on but she is still stuck with the guilt of breaking up with Ronit. When Ratna meets her favorite author Ronit she is all disappointed by the man who is not similar to the love of her dreams. A little lie allows her to stay at Ronit’s place. There she decides to change his thoughts on love and encourage him to write. On the other hand, Nitasha decides to make amends with her past and begin a new life. But it’s easy said than done. Will the three be able to get over their past and live their life fully?

The book is written from the perspective of the three characters. Ratna, Ronit, and Nitasha’s tale explain love and heartbreak subtly. How love is meant for everyone but we end up falling in love with the wrong person and fall out of love is always difficult. The book also covered a writer’s point of view and what writing a book and readers reading means to them. The book embraced many philosophical topics but falling out of love was at the center. Human beings react differently to every emotion so the meaning of love and heartbreak differs. The parallel story of Nitasha provides hope to the readers, that making progress from heartbreak is possible. The language of the book is lucid making it easily readable to beginners. Also, the flow of the story is while it covers various discussions among Ratna and Ronit on various philosophical topics.

Although the book was simple it seems a little bit overdone due to the many issue discussion. It also makes it difficult to focus on the core topic. It is a good pick for a short and one-sitting read.

My Rating: 4.5/5
