The book begins when McRaven commences a speech to the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin, where he shared the Ten lessons and also talked about how various people played a life-changing part during his training. The first chapter followed by the title of the book states that a small activity like making your bed properly in the morning will lift you to start the day with satisfaction and to end it right. The value the task hold was that if the first task of the day accomplishes, then it would encourage to perform the future task with enthusiasm. The author also shared a back story, where he was assigned this task by his General and how he came out with flying colours. Each chapter followed after the first has its unique feature of delivering an eye-opening message backed by the author's tale. Lastly, McRaven wished the students that if they help ten people, and each of those ten change the life of the other ten, then the cycle of change would last till two generations.
The book is precisely motivational and could help us change our perspective of life. Each chapter tends to light a lamp of hope by its message. The stories shared by the author helps to back the lesson and make it realistic. The words of McRaven strengthen our belief that little things could lead us to great success. It will encourage us to take the small step of making our bed so that a day would come when we could change the world.
Overall, the book has an impact and generate an amount of positivity. Although it lacks continuity, still satisfies the reader. It is a short read, that makes it convenient for those who wish to try this genre.
