Do you like to make a to-do list? Does it help?

CW: Cheating

Jay’s Gay Agenda by Jason June covers the story of a 17-year-old outed gay kid, Jay, who has never experienced love. Being the only gay kid in his school has been difficult, but he has Lu, his best friend. Jay's life suddenly takes a turn when his mother's transfer to Seattle makes him leave Lu behind. A city thriving with a gay population overwhelms Jay. A list-maker Jay is taken under by Max, a genderqueer who apparently becomes his gay guide. Jay's meet-cute with Albert sparks a bond between them. While Max introduces Jay to Tony. Jay being excited, surprise, and overwhelmed by the sudden attention, makes some terrible decisions that jeopardize his bond with Albert and his friendship with Lu and Max. Will Jay be able to resolve these issues?

The debut novel of June is sex-positive still manages to respect asexuality. Jay trying to balance his old and new life while cutting things off his list was well-written. The character Jay reflected as a learner. The person who has not experienced, a first kiss, first love, the first relationship, is suddenly put in a situation where he is all confused and has no one to guide him. He is intended to make mistakes that is Jay. This book works as a guide for people be they queer or straight wish to fall in love and experience the feeling. The side characters like Albert, Lu, and Max hugely contributed to the story. They were written gracefully.

Although Jay messed up badly his character development was somewhat poor and that sideline the story for me.

Overall the book is a sweet debut novel and suitable for light reading with a lot of list-making.

"Life doesn't always go as planned, even with a list."

My Rating: 3.5/5
