What is your IKIGAI?
“Life is not a problem to be solved. Just remember to have something that keeps you busy doing what you love while being surrounded by the people you love”
Ikigai: The Japanese secret to a long and happy life is a non-fictional, self-help book that explores the country of Japan, the village Ogimi which has earned the name ‘The village of Longevity’. The author throughout the book explains that every person has a purpose for getting out of bed each morning. They have an Ikigai that means the happiness of always being busy. The book sets out a journey in which the author shares the tips and tricks of staying healthy and living a long life. The book elucidates the concepts followed by Japanese centenarians- the people who lived for centuries, their way of living a happy life, their diet, their experience, and their reasons for staying around for so long. There are minute details about life that are brought up by the author.
The book is a comfortable read which inspires in many ways. The topic like stress, having a bit of it in life is important to keep going is explained gracefully. The book is emphasized on things like nurture friendship, eating less to live more, find a passion, always have a backup in goals, live in the moments rather than worrying about the past and future. Each chapter has an important message but a single meaning to find an Ikigai, so the desire to share it till the end increases the course of life.
Although the hype of the book is a bit unnecessary since I don't found it any different from other non-fictional books. People who liked or loved it might look the other way around. Though it has great topics and is informative but revolves around the same thing. It defines the long life lived by the Japanese and also shares some stories of such great people. The book is a subtle read and is suitable for a person who wants to read something light and simple. Also, it's a perfect read to dive into the non-fictional genre.
My Rating:- 3.8/5
