Love doesn’t hold you back. When you love a person the flaws don't count. The Perfect Us by Durjoy Dutta is a contemporary fiction novel set around two characters Avantika and Deb who are opposite of each other but still perfect together.
The story takes place, Avantika is a beautiful investment banker and ambitious go-getter while her husband Deb is the opposite, a corporate professional turned failed writer, turned scripts of saas-bahu serials. They both have been together for ten years surviving everything from college to rave parties to annoying best friends, including Shrey, who has no respect for personal boundaries, and Vernita and Tanmay the annoying yet enviable ‘it’ couple. Avantika wants to take the next step in the marriage but Deb is not ready for that, while Deb confronts Shrey who jokes about it. But after a while, Deb respects his wife's decision and supports her. The complication to pain to the struggle for happily ever after is what the story is about.
This book is not only about marriage and having a child but the important decision taken during this process, the support from your loved ones and friends, the overall importance of having a family is also brought to light. The writer had also said about the trust you put in your family and friends and the way the return it back by supporting you in your difficult times is the pure part of the book. Even the love you share with your partner and how you support and respect their decision matters in a healthy relationship.
Overall the language of the book is very overwhelming. The way Durjoy Dutta has portrayed the characters and their emotion could be felt in the words. From Suffering and pain to peace and joy the book will take you on a rollercoaster ride. The way the climax is written and the various emotions expressed by the characters would be a difficult part. But the end would be satisfying. This book brings up a beautiful message that every pain will lead you towards a peacefully ending. So if you are into romantic novels with some emotional touch then this could be your pick.
