The tale beings when the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange, Mr. Lockwood visits Wuthering Heights to meet his landlord, Mr. Heathcliff who lived there with his daughter-in-law and a boy Hareton Earnshaw who is the child of the previous owner. Due to the nightfall, Mr. Lockwood is forced to stay while he observes the family and is annoyed by their rude behaviour. He manages to set his eyes on the beautiful lady Catherine Heathcliff. An awful event at night builds his curiosity to know the story of Wuthering Heights and the mysterious girl. After visiting his house he requests his housemaid who has worked with both the families Mrs. Dean to narrates the tale of two-generation.
The story of wuthering heights revolves around Catherine and Heathcliff. When Cathy's father Mr. Earnshaw brought a gypsy boy who was disguise by his two children Hindley and Cathy but later Heathcliff and Cathy become friends while spending their time together. When Hindley takes over after his father’s death, he insults Heathcliff and treats him like the servants on the other hand Catherine finds some new friends Edgar and Isabella. Despite being in love with Heathcliff, Cathy chooses the Linton boy over him this hurts him. Betrayed by his love Heathcliff leaves the house just to return after years as a well maintain man poised to exact revenge for his previous suffering. The revenge story continues till the children of the three, Catherine, Hindley, and Heathcliff suffers the heat of revenge.
The rich language of the book is what makes it the best read. The tragic genre engrossed the people, the way the story continues creates an amount of curiosity. The tale is a perfect blend of emotions from love to envy to revenge that hooks the readers. The mental and physical cruelty based on religion, class, and women's place in society is the highlight of this tale. The unique way of narration and the concept of the book is what made this one the top classic read.
Overall the book would lead you from sympathizing with some characters to hating them through the course of the story. The book also raises questions aimed at religion, violence, and class discrimination. It's a must-read which would not be disappointing.
