Name a book that made you fall in love?
A book has its perks, which transfer a reader to a world where reality doesn't exist. A book sails us to a journey where stories touch our heart, where people seem perfect, where love feels real. A book can make us believe or break our trust in something. It manages to leave a mark on the reader's heart.
"Some Infinities are bigger than other infinities"- John Green.
The Fault in our Stars by John Green is a novel which breaks out heart while taking away our breath through the words. The tale of Hazel Grace, a sixteen-year-old with Thyroid cancer disconnects herself from the social world is forced by her mother to visit a support group where her path crosses with Augustus Waters (Gus). Gus, a seventeen-year-old boy diagnosed with Osteosarcoma got his leg amputated treats life like a rollercoaster ride. When they both exchange words, they soon become friends, and Hazel feels a strange connection with Gus. When Hazel passes on her Favourite book 'The Imperial Affliction' by 'Peter Van Houten' to Gus they share a mutual feeling about that book and decides to know more about the story. As they continue their talks they fall in love despite knowing their condition. They connect with Lidewij, the assistant of Van Houten, who invites them to Amsterdam. Gus sacrifices his wish for Hazel so they could meet Van Houten. They are both accompanied by Hazel's mother travels to Amsterdam, where they discover the truth about their author. Van Houten a mean alcoholic disappoints them while tells them that the arrangements were planned by Lidewij. Begin broken by Van Houten, Hazel and Gus visit Anne Frank House when insisted by Lidweji. Although having such a miserable day Hazel and Gus manage to share some special moments which they would carry as a memory with them forever. Knowing there numbered days, they still find the comfort of love and embrace that feeling. When Hazel learns that Gus's cancer has returned, her world gets shattered. After returning to Indianapolis, Gus's condition deteriorates.
The story penned down by John Green narrated through Hazel is a complete set of emotions. It would make us laugh, smile, cry, and importantly love. The words have an impact on the heart while manages to wet our eyes. It's not a typical love story that usually has a happy ending. This is a tale of survival, struggle, strength, sacrifice, which teaches us the meaning of love. Not every story has a happy ending, not everyone is meant to be together, but love can be felt by every person alive. The tale of Hazel and Gus came with an expiry date, but they still manage to love each other unconditionally. They supported one another. They completed each other. The point that love can be found in any condition is what this book confirms. Gus was the character that made the book more interesting. Even Hazel's mother was a constructive character who supported her daughter in every way. Gus changed Hazel and her life she felt alive around her. The prefuneral part was difficult to read while brought tears to my eyes. Even the part where Hazel finds the obituary written by Gus for her was bound to break our heart.
The work of the author was phenomenal. The book also has a movie adaptation, but it doesn't do justice to the book. The words printed on the paper have more effect than the screen popping in front. The book strengthens the belief that love can be felt and breaks every boundary. A cancer patient is capable of love, and that could be the purest kind of love. The work of John Green is a must-read.
